As the German Army encircled the retreating BEF at Dunkirk May 26 marked the start of Operation Dynamo. For the first time RAF Spitfires and Hurricanes flew side by side in cross channel operations in support of the evacuation of Dunkirk. Herman Goring boasted no British Soldier would leave French soil alive. This was not to be the case for the RAF achieved a tactical victory for evacuating a significant number of BEF troops.Daily Sweeps of Dunkirk were carried out daily while the evacuation lasted till June 3rd.

27 Hurricane pilots were to achieve ace while covering the evacuation.
